Hungama is East London’s first Bollywood gay hip-hop club night, and is curated by cultural producer Ryan Lanji. For Pride Inside, Ryan Lanji brings together a powerhouse group for a night of dance, chaos and bedlam.
This event will be streamed on Facebook.
Described as an ‘Indian Studio 54’, HUNGAMA (Hindi for ‘Chaos’ or ‘Lit’) has created a space for South Asian Queers to express their individuality. The night has collaborated with international DJs and creatives and recently travelled to India to play India’s Soho House Mumbai and Kitty Su.
Ryan Lanji is a Cultural Producer and Public Personality very much in demand. From his first East London show, ‘NAILPHILIA’ (the world’s first nail art exhibition, 2011) to his most recent exhibition ‘Conservation Couture: The Animal Ball’ which featured forty fashion houses including Burberry, Chloe, Jean-Paul Gaultier and Mugler at the V&A Museum, Fashion & Art Curator Ryan Lanji has collaborated with the who’s who in the Fashion industry and started a movement of culture through exhibitions and happenings. His beliefs of raising awareness and visibility by creating Culture, Championing Creativity, and causing opportunity have made him a natural leader and an active Public Figure in the LGBTQIA community. He is regularly booked as a Personality and ambassador for brands hosting talks, curating events and exhibitions as well as hosts two radio shows highlighting and amplifying the voices in the South Asian LGBTQIA+ community. In 2016 Lanji created HUNGAMA (East London’s Queer Bollywood Hip/Hop night) and with it has captured the worlds attention championing Queer/Creative South Asians. He has built the night from the ground up and has taken his Party to Ministry of Sound, British Vogue, The V&A, Soho House and the Tate Modern. In the last year, his Bollywood infused Hip Hop Electro party has been featured in global press including VOGUE, i-D, Dazed, Noisey, Hunger, Time Out London, BBC, and The Guardian and he recently was featured in Another Man as one of the ten most politically pioneering LGBTQ Activists in both New York and London.
